used A metadata form was used according to the scheme of
METS (Metadata
Encoding and Transmission Standard), also used by the Biblioteca Nacional de Portugal (BNP) (Portuguese National Library (PNL)). In this manner, all digital objects were
codified according to the Scheme of METS, including also its bibliographic
metadata. The METS scheme is maintained by the Network Development
and MARC Standards Office of the United States Congress Library.
The
programs PAPAIA and ContentE by the BNP, aiming to develop an infrastructure
that makes use of information solutions that are open, standard , scalable,
viable and sustainable on the long term.
There
was a need to outsource externally for the service to produce about 75 000
images of various document types with resolutions of 300dpi or 600 dpi.
